In this series of photographs, my goal was to make the viewer question which parts of the Jacksonville cityscape they were observing. The majority of street photography focuses on simply capturing the city, but my goal was to abstract elements of the city. I noticed where the tops of buildings merged to form these new, distinctive structures when I was observing the Jacksonville skyline. After seeing this, I pushed that concept to distorting or subtracting certain parts of downtown Jacksonville. The purpose of my photos is to evoke curiosity in the audience about where precisely the image was taken.
Within these images, there is a collection of mirrors or fragments of mirrors that I temporarily installed in different places around downtown Jacksonville. Everything in these scenes is done while shooting; there is no excess editing done. In the end, I wanted to document downtown Jacksonville, but in a nontraditional way. I made sure to take abstract images to portray how I began to envision the cityscape.
